Additional Details

A letter of provenance by the teacher, who taught the third grade at the American School in Tokyo, Japan, is cornered to the verso of the matte board. Dated 11 October, 1993, Washington, D. C. She described how each child wrote and illustrated a page of the book. Seuss, who only occasionally wrote personal reply letters, was clearly touched by the gesture and responded in kind with his letter and drawing.
